On 1 May 2015, Glen and I got married in Cape Town, South Africa. Our Pink and Gold Woodlands Wedding was the culmination of 7 months of planning our wedding together [that’s right, Glen was 100% involved in everything] and getting ready to build our marriage.
The whole journey kicked off with the most incredible proposal story. Glen surprised me with an entire day full of adventures [you can read my side of the story here and Glen’s side of the story, including details of how his surprise almost didn’t happen, right here].
We got stuck into planning our wedding pretty quickly and I had a mood board of ideas that inspired us and helped us keep our vision in mind. I also managed to learn a few helpful things along the way and finally came up with my number one wedding tip.
Lets be real here: wedding planning is ridiculously fun. Glen and I had an absolute blast planning our wedding together and there were very few stressful moments and so many fun experiences. I took my girls to help me pick out my wedding dress. I tried on tons of dresses and ultimately ended up getting a non-traditional wedding dress from a non-wedding dress store.
On our wedding day, Glen surprised me – and all our wedding guests – with a beautiful song he wrote for me. He was too nervous to sing the song on our wedding day, because he knew he would cry, so he recorded the song and compiled a lovely video full of photos of us!
We had the most delicious wedding cake table, created by the wonderful Seline van der Wat, who you may recognise from Masterchef South Africa season 2. She completely outdid herself and really helped us celebrate with our guests by eating the best cakes I have ever eaten in my life. Tip: we got our family to pack a slice of each cake into a box and put it in our car, and we ended up eating LOTS of wedding cake on our honeymoon.
